John-Patrick Hartnett is a Lecturer in Contextual and Theoretical Studies, teaching undergraduate courses in the Design School.
JP works as a graphic designer and writer. He also is a Lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies at the University of Brighton. He was Associate Lecturer at Kingston University in 2015/16, and Associate Lecturer at the Institute of Art, Design & Technology (IADT) in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland in 2012, where he also worked as Acting Coordinator of Critical and Contextual Studies on BA (Hons) Visual Communication.
JP holds two first-class degrees: a BDes (Hons) Interactive Media from IADT, and an MA in Communication Design from Central Saint Martins (UAL), London. His research explores the intersection of graphic design and typography with concerns of technology, history, education, and politics.
Between 2013 and 2016 he was a designer at Pony Ltd. in London, where clients included The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The British Council, Jameson Irish Whiskey, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Marlborough Contemporary.
JP’s writing has been published in Eye Magazine, The Bloomsbury Encyclopedia of Design, and Artefact: The Journal of the Irish Association of Art Historians, as well as by a variety of galleries and academic institutions.
