Biography

D Wiafe is the Course Leader on BA (Hons) Commercial Photography course at London College of Communication (LCC). He is also a Senior Lecturer on BA (Hons) Photography at LCC.

D's work champions the power and contributions of youth-led thinking to collaborative projects. He has an extensive background in developing project partnerships with brands and arts organisation that enable creative talent to contribute innovate ideas to the development of branded content, community initiatives, social enterprises and more.

As part of his work at LCC, D reshaped online learning by introducing 'New Waves'; a series of livestreamed talks and workshops by students that invited Photography professionals to participate. To date, the series has featured Ronan McKensie, Lola & Pani, Theo Cottle, Luke&Nik and has produced live talks for The Photographer's Gallery and Peckham 24.

D co-founded and co-leads Content Lab, a hub designed to give creatives at LCC their first steps into the industry.  Each project at the lab is a collaboration where students respond to live campaign briefs from renowned brands. In the last year, Content Lab has partnered with @converselondon and @insidejigsaw and continues to bring on-board collaborators wanting to provide creatives with opportunities to rethink the possibilities of branded content.

As an artist, D's work has taken him from creating staged tableaux with grime’s early pioneers, to acting as lead photographic mentor on the award-winning youth platform ‘The Cut’. Combined, his projects have allowed young people to collaborate on commissions with Nike, Puma, Adidas as well as exhibit with The Royal Photographic Society and The Southbank Centre.

He has worked with UAL Insights and Autograph ABP as project lead and curator on Album, a youth-led project exhibited at Rivington Place and featured in The Guardian and BBC News Online. D was one of Photofusion’s artists in residence 2016-18, creating “4PM in the Endz”, a multi-media exploration of the stigma of gang affiliation in Pollards Hill, South London. The work was exhibited at Photofusion (2018),  StreetLevel PhotoworksPeckham 24 (2019) and featured in Photomoniter.

D continues to support career development for under-represented creatives by managing Youth Programming at Photofusion. There, he initiated the Young curators programme which produced the shows “Sixteen x S2AU” curated by Sorry2AnnoyU and ‘’BLK BXY JOY” curated by Destinie Paige.
