LCF x Clubs and Societies: Latinx Creative Society

Carmen del Pilar Villanueva is a second-year BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Menswear student and treasurer of the Latinx Society. The Latinx Creative Society welcomes all Latin Americans students from UAL and aims to embrace diversity, share, discuss and encourage multicultural exchange. The society organises social events for all members to meet, and spread their culture throughout all the UAL colleges. We caught up with Carmen and discussed her time as a member of the Society and as a student at LCF.

Hi Carmen! What was your role in the Latinx Society?

This year I will be treasurer of the society. As a treasurer, I will make sure to do the best use of the money and will contribute to the growth of the society. We hope to welcome all new members and organise great events. I am also hoping to have a more active position than last year being just a member.

What did Latinx Creative bring to your student life?

It was really nice and rewarding to be part of this community. Through the society, I got to meet many people and I found some friends I wouldn’t have met without this society.

What would be your favourite thing about the society?

I love that different people from different countries and different backgrounds unite to represent our continent in a foreign country. I think it’s really enriching in every way, as we all get to learn from one another.

What have you learned during your time at LCF?

I am learning what hard work is, and that you got to put your heart and soul in things if you want things to work out.

I have also learnt to be more aware of what’s going on in the world nowadays and to get involved using the tools you have available.

What advice would you give to new students?

I would say: be open. Be open to new things, new people, new everything. Only the people who are open get to make the most out of university. These years are going to be one of the most amazing times of your life to discover things and discover yourself. It is a great opportunity so enjoy it.
