Biography

Vanessa is a Senior Lecturer and pathway leader for MA Journalism: Audio and Video at London College of Communication. She is an RTS award-winning broadcast journalist with more than thirty years’ experience.

Vanessa has worked for BBC national and ITV regional news and other major broadcasters, including Channels 4 and 5, specialising in research, planning and news editing.

Her academic career started as a senior practice fellow at Bournemouth University. She also led the Journalism BA at London South Bank University before joining the London College of Communication. Vanessa has also developed and taught courses for the NCTJ, Academy for Disabled Journalists and Butler University in Indianapolis.

Vanessa is Chief Examiner for Videojournalism for the National Council for the Training of Journalists and has worked with the NCTJ team to develop a number of innovative journalistic qualifications and developed online teaching materials.

She has written two practical textbooks: ‘Research Skills for Journalists’ and ‘How to be a Presenter’.
