Biography

Sarah Mansell is a Graphic Designer, Design Manager and Associate Lecturer for BA (Hons) Graphic Branding and Identity at London College of Communication. She holds a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, with a Commendation for Research from Kingston University.

Sarah was the winner of the RSA award New Designs for Old, creating a campaign to promote good typography to aid the elderly. She was awarded a Laureate from the Jan van Eyck Akademie in the Netherlands.

Sarah began her career in corporate design, where she was responsible for brand identity and implementation, corporate guidelines, literature and editorial, advertising campaigns, web design, environmental, art direction and brand development workshops for clients including Savills, Land Securities, Visa International, D&AD, London 2012 and the NHS.

She has working across a broad range of companies from individual designers, corporate and advertising agencies, to in-house teams specialising in retail and for the government-run TfL. Sarah also taught at LCP, Kingston University and Kent Institute of Art & Design.

For the last 10 years, Sarah has specialised in retail design, managing a team of Graphic Designers at Marks & Spencer to create windows, décor, media screens and customer loyalty schemes that deliver a consistent and compelling ‘on brand’ customer journey. She has also designed for BHS, TJX Europe, Mothercare and worked with TfL on brand strategy.

Her professional research involves an exploration of typography using specialist techniques such as Letterpress, Screen printing, Risograph printing, Linocuts and Calligraphy, to balance her time spent in front of a computer.

Sarah is a member of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and the Typographic Circle. She attends regular typographic lectures by Letterform Archive, Letter Exchange, St Brides Foundation, PosterHouse & Type@Cooper to expand her knowledge on the subject. She also hosts the Instagram account Craft type, a collected and curated visual diary of found typography and handmade lettering.
