Katerina Athanasopoulou is an animation artist working within short film and installations, and Course Tutor for BA (Hons) Animation at LCC. She likes to build digital and analogue forms in time, with an emphasis on the experimental, and has a particular interest in creating animated architectural landscapes. Katerina is currently researching interactivity within moving image installations.
Katerina's work has been screened in international film festivals and art galleries, including the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, Centre des arts actuels Skol, Thessaloniki Biennale 5, Thessaloniki Biennale 3, Istanbul Modern, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, European Media Arts Festival, Zagreb’s Museum of Contemporary Art, Art on the Underground, Channel 4 among others.
She has been commissioned by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Onassis Cultural Centre, London College of Fashion and other institutions, and also collaborated with artists to create animation for installations, theatre and film.
Katerina has delivered masterclasses at institutions such as Tate Britain and the Phoenix Leicester and has been a film festival jury member at the British Animation Awards (2012), Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival in France (2007) and Platforma Video in Greece (2007). She has delivered lectures and taken part in panel discussions for organizations such as Animate Projects, the OCC and RIBA and her films have been awarded in film festivals and art competitions.
Katerina’s specialism is compositing and digital process, which she teaches through workshops and lectures. She is passionate about encouraging the students to hone their vision through intense experimentation and develop their own creative voice. She has taught extensively within UAL and at national universities on BA and MA courses, and is currently external examiner for Middlesex University.
