Biography

Dr Barbara Plotz is an associate lecturer on BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Cultures at London College of Communication teaching film, television, cultural and media studies.

Barbara is a film scholar, having completed her PhD at King’s College London. Her research investigates the cultural politics of contemporary popular cinema.

Her interests lie within the intersection of film and cultural studies, with a focus on representation, gender, the body, and genre - specifically horror cinema.

Barbara also teaches at the department of film studies at King’s College London. Taught subjects include Film and Style, Film History, Classical Film Theory, Critical Theory and Film, Contemporary European Cinema, Hollywood Cinema, American Independent Cinema.

She has recently published a monograph with Bloomsbury entitled Fat on Film: Gender, Race and Body Size in Contemporary Hollywood Cinema.
