LCC students will be able to join expert librarians for a range of useful training sessions on topics including deep web searching, using the Special Collections and image research.
All sessions will be held in the LCC Library Training Room on the 2nd floor of the Learning Zone.
Deep Web Research – Getting started (more than search engines)
Wednesday 12 February 2020, 2.30 – 4.00pm
Librarian: Terry Thompson
This session is aimed at both 2nd- and 3rd-year undergraduates and postgraduates, and will help to get you started with your thesis research. You will look at ways in which you can use deep web searching more effectively to go beyond surface-searching through search engines. You will also learn how to access academically accredited information within the context of critically analysing the information sources you locate.
Researching and LCC Library Special Collections
Wednesday 26 February 2020, 1.00 – 2.30pm
Librarians: Monica Sajeva and Kasia Idzi
This session is aimed at Level 3, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and will explore different ways to approach research using objects and artefacts from the LCC Special Collections. You will have an opportunity to find out more about the Collections, to handle items and to try out a research approach.
Image Research (not just search engines)
Wednesday 4 March 2020, 2.00 – 3.30pm
Librarian: Leo Clarey
This session is aimed at Level 3, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and will introduce you to the library’s visual databases. It will highlight the benefits of researching images in the Deep Web - i.e. the part of the internet which exists beyond log-ins and passwords, and beyond the surface searching of search engines.
