Biography

Angela Michanitzi is the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Illustration and Visual Media at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, with over 27 years of teaching, leadership, and curriculum development experience at UAL.

Her practice spans illustration, visual storytelling, design strategy, and creative direction, grounded in a deep commitment to inclusive education, student wellbeing, and socially engaged creative practice. Across nearly three decades at UAL, Angela has taught and mentored students at all levels, shaping curricula that bridge critical thinking, experimental practice, and professional readiness.

Angela’s research interests sit at the intersection of illustration, visual communication, identity, and emerging technologies. She is particularly interested in illustration as a tool for storytelling, empowerment, and cultural dialogue, as well as the impact of AI, digital authorship, and new image-making tools on creative education and practice. Her work often explores how visual language can support confidence, resilience, and agency.

Alongside her academic role, Angela brings extensive industry experience in graphic design, advertising, visual branding, and creative consultancy. She has worked across print, digital, and experiential contexts, collaborating with creatives, educators, and organisations internationally. This industry grounding informs her teaching philosophy, ensuring that students develop both conceptual depth and practical confidence as contemporary illustrators and visual communicators.

Angela is known for her strong advocacy for students, her collaborative leadership style, and her commitment to fostering a supportive, ambitious learning environment. She is passionate about empowering students to develop a distinctive visual voice, a critical mindset, and the confidence to navigate creative industries with integrity, curiosity, and resilience
