200 students from 9 London universities embarked on a unique entrepreneurial journey across the capital for the London Venture Crawl with our Student Enterprise Team.
Over the course of 12 hours, 6 iconic Routemaster buses took students to some of London’s top innovation hubs and workspaces to experience start-up ecosystem’s first-hand and meet top entrepreneurial leaders. They toured places like Amazon Fashion, Google, Grant Thornton and a received a presentation from LCF’s Head of Fashion Innovation Agency, Matthew Drinkwater.
The London Venture Crawl, pioneered by King’s College London in 2017, aims to introduce students to entrepreneurship and a range of journeys, provide a platform for knowledge exchange, enhance career opportunities, foster collaboration and networking and instil entrepreneurial attributes through peer to peer interaction and experiential learning. The variety of the institutions gave students a chance to meet those from different course backgrounds to themselves and broaden their networks while getting an exclusive look into some of the worlds biggest technology businesses and start-ups. The keynote speaker of the day was Juliet Warkentine, Director of Marketing at Amazon Fashion Europe.
MA Fashion Futures student Molshree Vaid, spoke to Times Higher Education after the venture crawl. He told them:
London’s start-up ecosystem is so vibrant and to navigate it on the iconic red bus in the company of budding entrepreneurs from 9 universities was an experience like no other. Kudos to the architects of the day’s itinerary as they successfully kept me from checking my phone, except for tweeting memorable moments from the sessions.
I particularly enjoyed the candid and casual tone of interaction with entrepreneurs across business sectors and scales, investors and start-up consultants. The collaboration was in the air as Student Enterprise Team members across colleges joined up to keep us entertained and energised during the crawl. A fun-filled pitching session by students at the evening party nicely capped off a day that was high on inspiration, bold ambitions and fresh thinking.
