MA Fashion Artefact graduate Hongji Lee wins the Craft the Leather prize

MA Fashion Artefact graduate, Hongji Lee, is the winner of the Craft the Leather prize. The project is organised and financed by Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale (Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium). Ten students designed and made an original collection of personal accessories in Tuscan veg-tanned leather, featured on the trade show taking place in Line Pelle, Milan, attracting over 20,000 professionals. Hong Lee’s collection was voted by a panel of experts, the fair’s visitors and online followers.

The panel of experts included Antonella Bertagnin, creative director and “Trend Selection” coordinator at Lineapelle, considered to be one of the foremost and most trusted Italian trend forecasters in the field of footwear and leather goods and Cristina Mirri, shoe and accessory designer, illustrator, and product developer for a wide portfolio of international luxury fashion brands.

The five criteria for the Jury were:
  • Design inspired by qualities intrinsic to Veg-Tan Leather
  • Innovative use of Veg-Tan Leather
  • Excellent Aesthetics
  • Craftsmanship
  • Story telling of the Collection/ Does the Collection engage?
