LCF alumnus and Victoria Beckham favourite William Tempest is one of several fashion industry professionals who are taking part in our Practitioners in Residence scheme.
The UAL programme will see professionals giving talks and workshops on key elements of the fashion industry to help students improve their employability and skills.
LCF’s practitioners include specialists from the media, management, textiles, business, curation and performance.
LCF graduate, William studied BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear at LCF and is now considered one of the UK’s biggest up-and-coming talents. William started his residency in January and his work with LCF centres around products and elements of pattern making “Practical skills such as pattern-making are really important to me, I cut a large amount of my own patterns and shapes and my design process incorporates a lot of experimentation” he said.
Tempest wanted to share his expertise of the fashion world both from an employment perspective and also offer tips from his time as a student that helped him to get ahead: “Find a work placement whilst you’re studying, it will give you an advantage when you graduate and be clear about your aesthetic and question if it is desirable, employable.”
Other LCF practitioners have been textiles surrealist Bart Hess who also gave a talk in January with William Tempest, Justin Cooke, CSM alumnus designer Thomas Tait, Fashion Design and Development summer school teacher Heidi Stokes, and art director and set designer Rhea Thierstein who has worked with Italian, British and American Vogue.
