As you prepare to start the new term, we bring you some of the best fashion accounts to follow and keep yourself in the know.
Diet Prada™
@diet_prada makes a point of calling out the ever present plagiarism, in the fashion industry. With an awesome knowledge of past collections, the anonymously run account trawls the archives to highlight the copycats. The impressive account recently collaborated with Gucci, a brand often accused of appropriation, on an Instagram Stories takeover. A must follow for the fashion purists.
Alexander Fury
AnOther editor @alexanderfury‘s Instagram account is a delight for any fashion fan. The editor has an incredible knowledge of fashion past and present which is apparent in his image choices and captions. He also has an excellent mix of high and low brow references and his regular red carpet event vs Ru Paul’s Drag Race series is fantastic. His genuine love of fashion is apparent with every post.
Freddie Made
The Queen in YSL, Gucci and Balenciaga? Why not? Art Director @freddiemade‘s account is everything, even Rihanna is a fan. The Photoshop master specialises in mash up images and reinterpreting design logos, Chanel’s Double CC becomes Can’t Cope is just one example. His feed brings some much needed laughter to fashion but a word of warning – Trump as Bridget Jones may turn your stomach.
Business of Fashion
As a fashion student, BoF is your guide to all things fashion. Combining breaking news, in depth analysis, critical thought and inspiring interviews, BoF offers an important voice in fashion.
Adwoa Aboah
As a model, activist, founder of Gurls Talk and contributing Vogue editor @adwoaaboah has been shaking up the fashion industry. Billed by the Guardian as the ‘poster girl of modern fashion’ Adwoa’s social media is a much needed place of fun, beauty and empowerment.
Coco Capitan
Photographer, and LCF alum, @cococapitan’s Instagram is a visual treat. Her combination of photography and #cococapitanwriting caught the attention of Gucci’s Alessandro Michelle who called on her to collaborate on their aw17 collection. Her account is thought provoking, intelligent and inspiring.
Documenting Courtaud
@documentingfashion_courtauld is a beautiful, educational and all round inspiring account. The offshoot of Courtauld’s Documenting Fashion blog, the Instagram page offers beautiful fashion imagery throughout the ages, as well as glimpses at archive pieces. A fascinating account for any fashion fan.
Naomi Shimada
@naomishimada‘s Instagram is colourful, beautiful and empowering, much like the plus size model and body positive campaigner. A very sunny addition to any newsfeed.
The Fashion Law
@TheFashionLaw offers an independent view on the legal aspects of the fashion industry. They discuss plagiarism battles, offer insight into photography rights and inform us of who the Kardashian/Jenners are being sued by this time. A very interesting take on the fashion industry.
SHOWstudio
As the home of fashion film and love fashion broadcasting @SHOWstudio‘s Instagram account is a beautiful mix of moving image, illustration, striking photography and fashion critique. A great source of inspiration.
And of course make sure you are following @LCFLondon_ and @pigeonandspeacocksmag
