Up next in our LCFBA18 season we turn our attention to menswear designers from this year. We spoke to three students from BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology Menswear to find out about their final project and time at LCF, ahead of our LCFBA18 show, which is being streamed onto our website and Twitter, as well as being streamed in 360 on YouTube.
LCFBA18 is taking place at Oval Space, east London, between 5-6 June.
Up first is Charlie Piers Sheldon who studied part time at LCF – he started his studies at the age of 42 with no previous experience. The starting point for his final collection was The Gay Liberation Front joining forces with the striking miners during the 1980s. It explored protest, dirt, gay sexuality & identity, the limits of taste. IT features dresses for boys, ruffs, harnesses and revealing clothes; a hint of fetish – think, “oversized tailoring meets streetwear and workwear”. Of his time at LCF he said it was “a tough but inspiring & incredible personal journey”.
“THIS IS MY HOME. STAY WITH ME. CAN’T GO ON. SURVIVAL” is the message of Lingfeng Edison Zhu’s final collection. He told us he really enjoyed LCF – “I had a good experience and learnt a lot of skills here. I met nice classmates and the tutor was really helpful to me” .
The inspiration for Danyi Eleven Yang’s collection is from 90s unemployment workers. She told us “it is my conclusion of the past of 3 years. It is a beginning in the future and I did what I really want to do. I have grown a lot at LCF, in my professional knowledge and my way of thinking. I am very grateful to my tutors, whether in design or essay. They guided me how to study in depth. Of course, I also happy that I’m still passionate about fashion”.
