As part of celebrating and supporting the work of designers for performance in the UK, the Society of British Theatre Designers (SBTD) holds a four-yearly national exhibition of UK performance design. This is part of the build-up for the UK exhibit at Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, the most important global event in design for performance.

The SBTD has commissioned hello stranger as the national exhibition project for 2023, designed and curated by Maryna Gradovna with V&A as the host venue as part of their yearly Performance Festival, and London College of Fashion, UAL; working with MA Fashion Curation and Cultural Programming students as an embedded Knowledge Exchange project.

As part of the festival, MA Fashion Curation and Cultural Programming students developed three interventions under the festival’s broad theme of ‘voice’, the interventions celebrate the voice of costume designers by offering interactive and contemplative experiences that creatively explore costume design.

This year's V&A Performance Festival will celebrate, explore and deconstruct musical theatre, with a wide range of special events taking place throughout the museum.
