Sophia is from the UK and studied MA Fashion Footwear

Did you undertake any internships whilst studying? And if so how do you feel about them?

This year I undertook internships with several companies. For my second term of the course I worked with Dr.Martens on an industry project over at the factory, which was a great experience and a priveledge to be able to work with such an enthusiastic and friendly team.  In my third term I then headed over to the South of Italy to start work with Italian manufacturers  on my ladies shoes for final collection. In my final term I have worked with Joseph Cheaney & Sons over in Northamptonshire on my mens line. I really love the traditional craftsmanship and being able to combine this with an edgy and modern twist.

Did you receive a scholarship during your studies? If so which one?

Upon being offered a place on the MA course at LCF I was also lucky enough to receive the Rector’s scholarship to cover the cost of the course fees which really helped me to make the decision right away that this was an opportunity not to be passed by.

What are your future plans?

I am currently developing some designs to be made at the same factory in Italy as I worked with in my third term. The link that I made with them has been priceless and they are being very supportive in helping me get started, showing me how everything works right from the office and factory floor, through to the warehouse, showroom and shop floor. As well as this I will be applying for lots of footwear design and development jobs as I feel it will be beneficial to work for a company for a number of years before trying to sell my own products.
