— K. Davies and M. Ashton

Wuzzy Omiyale graduated from London College of Fashion in 2019 after studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology: Womenswear.

Since graduating from LCF, Wuzzy went on to set up her own business By Wuzzy, a sustainable denim brand.  By Wuzzy was the 2021 runner-up in the Maker category of the Creative Enterprise Awards.  We caught up with with Wuzzy to find out more about her business success and her insights and plans for the future.

Hi Wuzzy - congratulations for coming so far the UAL Creative Enterprise Awards! Tell us more about you brand BY.WUZZY, what makes it unique?

BY.WUZZY is an eco conscious sustainable denim brand that started in 2020 during the lockdown and the height of the pandemic. The UPS of the brand has to be the I only use vintage Levis jeans to create bespoke garments.

Why did you choose to pursue this concept?

I chose this because it came natural to me, I have been up cycling my clothes for as long as I can remember I just didn't know there was term for it! Plus my mum is a tailor so I have always seen clothes being made.

What is the future vision for the business?

In the future I see BY.WUZZY being in the for front of innovated methods of reworking and up cycling production - through the fashion and tech industry.

What advice would you share with emerging entrepreneurs when establishing a fashion brand?

The best advice I can give is just to start whatever you want to do sooner rather than later. The only way you would learn from your mistakes is to start!
