LCF Corwainers Accessories Students Design Bags for Kurt Geiger
In November, second year BA (Hons) Cordwainers Fashion Bags and Accessories students embarked on a project with Kurt Geiger, to customise the brand’s well known Saffiano tote bag and have the chance of winning the Kurt Geiger sponsorship prize.
Students were challenged to reinterpret the classic tote and capture the spirit of the #FromLondonWithLove hashtag. The designs were judged by Kurt Geiger’s Creative Director, Rebecca Farrar-Hockley, and blogger Disney Roller Girl, who both studied the original concepts and techniques and made a decision based on the correct balance between practicality, ambitious design, and brand appropriateness.
And now, a few weeks later, three winners have been chosen and their designs can be seen in Kurt Geiger’s Portobello Road store. Rachel Doerk (first prize) was awarded £2,500 for her ‘my Love inside out’ design, Adelaide Le Gras (second prize) was awarded £2,000 for her ‘patent red and nude hearts’ design, and Bella Kerovirta (third prize) was awarded £1,000 for her ‘quote fringes’ design.
Course Leader for the Cordwainers course, Lindsey Riley said:
“The Kurt Geiger team found it a hard task to judge due to the really high standard of creativity and inspiration. They also noted that the impressive craftsmanship of the finished pieces has given them the opportunity of showcasing up close the customised bags in their Portobello Store, chosen because of its edgy customer base. A very well done to all of you who entered with your fabulous and very creative design ideas – you are great ambassadors for the LCF BA Accessories Course.”
All of the bags go on display today at Kurt geiger on Portobello Road and you can even win one by following @kurtgeiger on Instagram and reposting your favourite design, tagging it #FromLondonWithLove.
