Sko Journal, a new publication dedicated to footwear launching in May, has included an extensive feature on the history of LCF’s Cordwainers school. For its first issue, editor Rebecca Parker interviewed course leader Sarah Day to learn more about the origins of shoe-making in London and how the techniques have evolved and adapted to the demands of the industry.

“The article highlights the importance of education when it comes to designing and making shoes. It also focuses on how the Cordwainers Footwear course is keeping traditions alive at the same time as giving skills to the next generation of creatives, nurturing their talent and equipping them for the industry,” Rebecca says.

After doing extensive market research, the team behind Sko Journal, also joined by LCF illustration alumnus Josh Bristow, decided to create a complete innovative publication fully dedicated to shoes: “There's no such magazine that exists, which was a good start!” Rebecca mentions. She describes the magazine as a “hybrid of educational long-form features” focusing on up-and-coming shoe designers and the history behind different shoe styles.

Like any other well-established fashion magazine, Sko Journal also pays great attention to the visual components which define the character of the publication: “Our editorial shoots also provide a compelling slant on typical fashion photography, seeking to provoke a reaction, showcasing shoes in ways they have not been perceived before,” Rebecca explains.

The first issue of the magazine also includes an interview with LCF alumna and shoe designer Yunfei Ma.
