Our LCFMA18 season continues with MA Fashion Media Production graduate Murvet Doganlar from Istanbul, Turkey. The talented media artist created a short dance film for her Final Major Project that explores self-identification through social media.

Tell us about your final project…
My final project is an immersive video installation that will screen a short dance film that I directed, produced and edited. The film is about an individual’s constant self-identification through self-reflection in the mirror and the construction and deconstruction of that reflected-image with the usage of social media. The film visualises an individual’s uncanny relationship with his/her reflected-image with the gaze that is directed to, by and for it.
What would be your top tips for new students…
Try, fail, try again. Don’t be afraid of trying new things and always choose the hard path as doing an MA is the best and probably the last time to have the chance to challenge yourself.
What made you chose LCF and London…
MA Fashion Media Production was the only course that I intrigued me and the fact that it was taught at LCF in London made me more sure about my decision.

What were the highlights and biggest challenges of your course…
As a BA French Literature graduate, everything about the course was a big challenge for me from the start. Exploring new areas, learning new skills and putting that knowledge into practice was absolutely thrilling. So I think, the challenges that I experienced also became the highlights of my MA.

Have you been in a work placement or internship…
Since I moved to London, I have done internships at an online art gallery and at a film production company. I also did a volunteering job and worked part-time for few months to save up.

Literature and people.
What are your plans for life after your MA…
To start building my career in London.
