The third annual DRAWFASHION exhibition opens on Friday – a culmination of the collaboration between LCF and Cass Art, which invited design students to enter a competition dedicated to fashion illustration. For the first time, the competition was open to all full time students across the UK and and the shortlisted entries will be on display in Soho.

The competition is dedicated to drawing, which is a fundamental part of any design. From pens to paint, markers to cutting, clay to customisation; it can form the most creative and artistic of statements.

This year’s brief encouraged students to explore their fashion design practice through observation, abstract thinking, traditional and digital drawing techniques and other mediums including ceramics, metalwork and tapestry.  It highlights the importance of the process of drawing and how far the art form can be pushed.

DRAWFASHION is the concept of Rob Phillips, artist and Creative Director of the School of Design and Technology at LCF, who told us:

I wanted to create a project that ultimately promotes and advances drawing, encourages observation, plays with abstraction, acts an outlet of emotion and constructs and communicates identity. Through drawing we can move design on; personify style, mood, make a statement; progress traditions and construct new worlds to push fashion forward.
