shiftlondon.org – the live website run by students on the BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism at London College of Fashion – has been highly commended for the best newcomer prize at the Student Publication Awards (SPA).

The shortlisting recognises BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism students’ hard work and high skill levels. Since its launch in 2016 the site has developed into a well-respected title that is cited by users as an indispensable guide to fashion in London.

Josephine Collins, BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism course leader, says:

The students have grown the site incredibly well. It is fantastic to see that their work has achieved this national recognition by the SPA, especially as this is the first time the site has been nominated.

Jessica Bugg, Dean of School of Media and Communications, says:

Not only has shiftlondon.org helped students to showcase their achievements, but it has become an immensely valuable tool for driving cross-discipline collaboration and a vital outlet for students exploring issues of sustainability and diversity in the fashion and media industries.

Through its mix of written and broadcast content shiftlondon.org has grown an audience of over 6000 regular users, while helping students develop their skills.

Eloise Hall, a third-year student who worked on the site as fashion editor, says:

One of the best things about working on the site is that it is taken seriously by people in the fashion industry and citing its name helps to secure interviews.

The Student Publication Awards took place on April 6.
