Last week, highly successful commercial artist, set designer and illustrator Gary Card, was invited in as guest speaker to talk to second year Fashion Illustration students about his work and practice.
Gary gave students plenty of advice when it came to how to promote themselves, having started his career in a time before social media. He also spoke about the importance of networking and encouraged students to be active with their School of Media and Communications at LCF, making sure they are forging links and working in collaboration with other students outside of their immediate practice.
After his talk, Gary ran a workshop with the second year illustration students, where they created, designed and illustrated a series of cardboard boxes, which were then turned into a collaborative installation. Card mentioned how much he enjoyed his time with the fashion students, and said he was inspired by their output and talents.
What an amazing opportunity this was for students to learn from such a high profile artist. Gary Card will be revisiting the students on the 19th May to critique their project work.
