AJ is a multidisciplinary artist who combines traditional and digital practices across photography, film, styling and set design. He builds visual environments through hand-painted backdrops, sculptural sets and digital techniques, creating constructed imagery.
Drawing on mythology, symbolism and folklore, his work examines how images construct ideas of identity and belonging through collaborative image-making with individuals centred in the art.
He describes his practice as a reinvention of classicism, drawing on Old Master paintings and historical visual narratives. Through reinterpreted classical imagery, his work engages with established art traditions and their continued influence on contemporary visual culture. His work repositions underrepresented people and their embodied perspectives within visual traditions, challenging inherited ideas about who is represented, celebrated and preserved.
Central to his process is a reconsideration of authorship in image-making. Working collaboratively, control is shared between image-maker and subject, reframing how images are produced within visual environments.
His practice spans editorial, advertising, film and independent projects, alongside ongoing collaborative and community-led work.
