Uncertainty Playground is a series of exhibitions, events and podcasts which consider how design can define, address and make meaning from the ambiguities and uncertainties that we currently face.

As part of London Design Festival 2017, London College of Communication presents four exhibitions that explore the role of design research and practice in imagining, critiquing and shaping potential futures.

Episode 4 looks at  design cultures, histories and futures, as explored by the Room 2084 exhibition…

Episode 4 – Design Cultures, Histories and Futures

In episode 4, George Orwell’s Room 101 is re-imagined, as discussions involve how we control our past, explored in the Room 2084 exhibition.

Dr Nicky Ryan, Dean of Design at LCC, meets Dr Ian Horton, Coordinator for Contextual & Theoretical Studies in LCC’s Design School, and Robert Urquhart, Lecturer on BA (Hons) Design Management & Cultures, to discuss their living archive

Playfully based on the antithesis of George Orwell’s ‘Room 101’, Room 2084 considers the archives of the past, present and potential futures. Alumni, staff and students will present objects from their own archives to a jury with the aim of being included in a design archive of the future.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, a living archive will be created, allowing for debates around how and why the past and the present are preserved for future generations.

In the podcast series, we explore the ideas behind the exhibitions that make up Uncertainty Playground. Listen as Dr Nicky Ryan, Dean of Design at LCC, speaks with the academics behind the exhibitions and investigates a different aspect of the work of the Design School.
