Two recent graduates of LCC’s Postgraduate Diploma in Design for Visual Communication and Postgraduate Certificate in Design for Visual Communication are celebrating the publication of brand new design books with which they have been heavily involved.

Nick Hearne took the Certificate in 2005 and is the design lead for the glossy, 256-page Sneakers: The Complete Limited Editions Guide, written and designed by U-Dox and published by Thames & Hudson on Monday 17 February.

Nick’s career in advertising has taken him to Wunderman, Blue Hive, U-Dox and We Are Social, where he is now Senior Creative. He has produced work for brands including adidas, BBC, Ford, Skullcandy, Vans, Cadbury, Heinz, Foot Locker, Channel 4, Jaguar and Bulmers, and has collected over 70 international awards for design, art direction and copywriting.

The sequel to the hugely successful Sneakers: The Complete Collectors’ Guide, Nick’s latest project is a global survey and reference guide to the best and most collectible limited edition sneaker designs released over the last decade.

The book showcases the very best of sneaker culture, featuring more than 300 designs arranged by brand, informative text and details of edition, pack, year released, original purpose, technology and extras.

Meanwhile Sarah Schrauwen, a Design for Visual Communication Diploma graduate in 2011, has co-edited her first book with Unit Editions alongside Tony Brook and Adrian Shaughnessy. Manuals 1: Design & Identity Guidelines can be pre-ordered now for delivery in March and is the first comprehensive study of corporate identity manuals.

The volume features 21 manuals from the 1960s to the early 1980s – the golden era of identity design. The book includes manuals created for organisations such as NASA, Lufthansa and British Steel, presented in a spacious layout that allows readers to fully appreciate these examples of information design at its best.
