Exhibition identity: MAKE.

Each year, Postgraduate Shows at London College of Communication (LCC) mark a moment of clarity in the journeys of our graduating students. Working across areas ranging from photography to animation, filmmaking to graphic design, their exhibited projects provide a window into intense periods of learning and experimentation.

Our emerging and established creatives have developed a range of specialist skills and perspectives that have supported them to define both their practice and their point of view.

Emerging as creative practitioners with powerful ambition, they leave LCC prepared to take the next step on their journeys as creators and problem-solvers who can capture and respond to the dynamism and energy of a world in motion.

Visual identity

This year, the identity for our Postgraduate Shows has been designed by MAKE - a creative studio that operates at the intersection of design and digital culture.

Established by LCC graduates Mariona Ortiz and Kenzo Mayama, MAKE focus on using design and creative direction to generate purposeful experiences. With a process driven by a fast, focused design approach and lean teams tailored for each brief, they work with organisations ranging from start-ups to global companies - empowering them to 'make a splash'.

MAKE's 2023 identity responds to the ways in which our focus constantly zig-zags in a fast-moving world. Built around a stacked 'concept' that represents LCC's 3 Schools, the identity device has been designed to reflect our ability to rapidly shift our focus as a catalyst for creativity - outlining a shift in focus beyond a break in productivity as, instead, a positive step towards solutions and ideation.

The device has been channeled into a series of both static images and motion, along with vinyl applications, wayfinding and a generative tool that enables graduating students to share their work within the identity concept - embedding their practice as a legacy of the College itself.

Exhibitions

Select courses will be taking part in the Postgraduate Shows 2023 onsite exhibitions, which will be split into 2 shows across November and December:

  • Show One (Media School): 15-18 November
  • Show Two (Design School and Screen School): 6-9 December

Each Show is free and open to all.

All students will also have the opportunity to digitally present their work to a global audience on the UAL Graduate Showcase platform.

Events and activities

Our Postgraduate Shows are accompanied by an events programme which offers opportunities for staff, students and industry professionals to share their learning and consider the impact of contemporary shifts in the creative landscape.

Ranging from film screenings and symposiums to interactive gaming experiences, our events are designed to encourage discussion, initiate knowledge exchange and inspire future developments in both practice and industry.
