‘Visual Grammar: Line, Circle, Square’, a short film by PGCert Design for Visual Communication student Kim Yeandle-Hignell, has been selected for Warsaw-based student film festival MOTYF 2014.
The brief for Kim’s initial design project was to produce a movie or design a book of drawings, constructions, photographs or observations in three parts, expressing the qualities of lines, circles and squares.
Kim explains: “This project has been a journey of discovery. Initially, I was planning to do a publication, then I started to experiment, creating a short video focusing first on the movement of lines. I felt this video would be a good opportunity for me to continue learning more about moving image and software while also writing my own music.
“Inspired by Oskar Fischingar’s video soundtrack, I wanted to take a more natural and primal approach, taking the viewer on a journey through moving geometric shapes. I made use of light, shadow, organic and geometric objects. I wanted the viewer to see the beauty of simple objects and forms.”
The MOTYF jury comprised international specialists Professor Anja Stöffler, Professor Ralf Dringenberg, Jacek Rokosz FADr and Professor Jan Kubasiewicz, and students Max Lasocki and Katarzyna Mądry.

The chosen films will be shown at selected venues in Warsaw in May and June.
