Biography

Trudi Esberger is Course Leader for the Level 3: International Introduction to the Study of Design, Media and Screen course at London College of Communication.

She has taught extensively in Further Education, and previous posts at other colleges include Course Leader for a Level Four Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, and Specialist Illustration Lecturer. Prior to this, Trudi worked in design and advertising agencies in London.

Trudi’s teaching and learning approach focuses on developing curricula that delivers implicit pastoral care via a student centred programme of study. Students build upon prior learning, and develop the confidence to make informed decisions regarding their future direction and ambitions.

Creative activities are wide ranging, with the aim for all students to focus into and towards any one of a range of undergraduate disciplines; with the added assets of independent study methods, academic resilience and creative problem-solving.

As an illustrator, Trudi’s work has been recognised by several awards including the Ronald Searle Award for Creativity, the Macmillan Prize for Children's Book Illustration and the 3 X 3 Magazine of Contemporary Illustration Awards.

Her ongoing illustration practice focuses on location drawing, and her current research project ‘Drawing Without Audience’ aims to explore how the practice of drawing can be used to ground the self; allow ourselves to be present, move away from distractions and encourage well-being.
