Biography

Peter Ainsworth is the Course Leader for BA (Hons) Photography at London College of Communication. He is an educator, visual practitioner and researcher whose current work explores the effect that emerging photographic processes; including 3D computer generated imaging (CGI) photogrammetry and augmented reality have on us, and the expectations we have of them.

Graduating from a master’s degree in Photography at London College of Communication in 2007, he is currently undertaking a practice-based PhD at Goldsmiths University in the department of Visual Cultures.

Peter’s research is particularly concerned with exploring the precarious relation between the inputting of data through a machine as a functionally transformative act and the differences; physical aesthetic, ethical and philosophical, that are embedded in these new technologies. Systems of control where distortion, translation and possible mutation are replete but in which prejudice, surveillance, understandings of worth and power are also highlighted.

Peter uses practice-based research and collaborative dialogue to develop ideas. He is a founding member of the research collaboration The Preserving Machine and PhD research group counterfield.
