Interview

What attracted you to postgraduate study, and MA 3D Computer Animation?

I chose the MA 3D Computer Animation course as my BSc was in 3D Animation & Visualization. Hoping to gain a more in-depth knowledge in 3D Animation and a goal to join the film industry, I knew this course would be exactly what I needed to enhance my credibility, portfolio, and expertise.

What experience did you have prior to joining the course?

Prior to the MA, I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University from a four-year BSc (Hons) in 3D Animation & Visualization. Throughout my undergrad, I was able to gain skills in 3D modelling, texturing, animating as well as VFX.

Can you tell us a little bit about your final major project? What was your inspiration behind it?

My final major project was about Matchmove and Motion capture. More specifically I created a clip with both Camera and Body Tracks as well as Motion Capture data. This project helped me better understand how the film postproduction process works.

Did the course provide opportunities to engage with industry?

One of the many benefits of my course was the guest industry speakers from the VFX industry, and their support as potential mentors. They really helped me understand how the industry works and gave me great advice.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of studying the course, what would it be?

Make sure to use all the resources and connections provided to you as well as keep asking for feedback from your supervisor. There is always room for improvement especially when it comes to your showreel.

What was the most important thing you learnt from studying MA 3D Computer Animation at postgraduate level?

It would have to be how the film and animation studios work, as well as what professionals are looking for in candidates.

Why would you recommend studying your course to others?

This course really helped me polish my artistic skills and improve the quality of my showreels towards an industry level. Not to mention, the potential and benefits of networking in a multicultural environment with similarly passionate people.

What was your personal highlight of studying your course at London College of Communication?

My personal highlight while studying at LCC was exposure to industry professionals and improved awareness of the reality of the business.

What are you currently working on / what are your plans for the future?

I am currently working as a full time Tracking – Matchmove artist at Framestore. My aspirations for the future would be to be able to work in various film projects and one day be a VFX supervisor.
