Lalu Delbracio is Course Leader and Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Photography course at London College of Communication.
Lalu is a visual artist who works with multiple media, including photography, video, installation and performance. Her work often takes on an abstract form and points to material processes of formation and degradation, as well as the power of narrative in social construction.
Interested in the historical and symbolic qualities of the materials she uses, and referring to narrative mediums such as theatre, film and dance, Lalu creates scenarios that invite the viewer to contemplate and question the power of narration and our own participation in the ritual or theatrical act.
Lalu’s practice moves between art and design. She received her MA in Photography from London College of Communication in 2015 and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication.
Prior to training in photography, Lalu obtained an undergraduate degree in Textile and Fashion Design from the University of the Republic, Uruguay, and went on to work for five years in costume design in the film industry, whilst also training in art institutions such as the Peggy Guggenheim foundation and the Venice Art Biennale.
In later years, Lalu worked as a Graphic Designer and managed print design projects for a variety of clients. Most recently she was Studio Manager at Noble studio, whose focus is on amplifying social and environmental causes through design.
As an educator Lalu specialises in facilitating knowledge exchange and professional practice relating to photography within the expanded field of visual culture. She brings her extensive industry experience from film, graphic design and contemporary art. Lalu has exhibited work with Archipelago Projects, Peckham24 and Offprint (London, UK), Materia Gallery (Rome, Italy), and was part of the collateral events programme of Manifesta 12 (Palermo, Italy).
