Biography

Anna Schlimm is a Lecturer on MA Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures at London College of Communication. She develops and delivers core parts of the course curriculum.

At the centre of both Anna's personal practice and teaching, lies an interest in questioning dominant notions of design, innovation and progress. She enjoys that the course is not tied to a specific design discipline, and the resulting freedom to explore new approaches to creative practice.

Prior to joining LCC, Anna designed the learning experience for an international learning programme for innovation policymakers at Nesta. Here she used her background in service design both to develop a participant-entered experience, and to introduce policymakers to the advantages and joys of thinking and working like a designer.

Outside of her work at LCC, Anna co-heads a small experimental studio, which she set up with a partner in South East London in early 2020. It is a work space, library, cinema and community space that enables different kinds of creative inquiry and activity. When possible, the studio hosts a variety of events, which so far have included screenings and experiments in self-sufficiency such as mending, fermenting, seed-sharing and growing.

Her personal work and ethos are the result of a non-linear journey – including a BA in Textile Design and an MA in Service Design – which has left her with the lasting belief that care, justice and humour must be the at the core of any endeavour to imagine alternative futures.
