Biography

Daniel Sinsel’s abstractions conceive painting as embodiment, stemming from his interest in figuration.

Labour and materiality are key components of Sinsel’s practice, with his latest series of paintings incorporating hand-woven linen, tar, glass, clay and woodwork that communicate sensuality and tactility through their intensely physical construction.

His sculptures also adopt the conventions of painting, with Sinsel’s classical assemblages frequently designed from a front on viewpoint, creating a heightened sense of dramatic illusion.

Sinsel’s work is regularly exhibited in the UK and internationally, featuring at galleries and museums such as Galleria Il Capricorno (Venice), Micky Schubert (Berlin), Office Baroque (Antwerp), Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), Jerwood Space, Chisenhale, Sadie Coles HQ (all London), The Breeder (Athens), Luisa Strina (São Paulo), Wallspace, Foxy Production, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Andrea Rosen (all New York), Galeria Fortes Vilaça (São Paulo), Neue Alte Brücke (Frankfurt), Hauser & Wirth (Zürich) and Franco Noero (Turin).
