As a postgraduate student at UAL, you have access to a wide range of free resources designed to help you balance study, research, and wellbeing.
Below is a summary of the key services available, along with tips for making the most of them.
UAL's Post-Grad Community platform
UAL’s dedicated postgraduate network is for sharing work, finding opportunities, and connecting with other creatives.
Access: Explore the Post‑Grad Community page on the UAL website and see how you can get involved.
Tip: Join monthly Post-Grad Connects events, Community Table events and interest groups to overcome isolation and build belonging.
Post-Grad Interest Groups
UAL’s Postgraduate Interest Groups are informal communities of students who share similar research themes, creative practices, or professional interests. They offer a relaxed, collaborative way to exchange ideas, get feedback, and find peers working on complementary projects across different colleges. Each group is student-led, and open to all postgraduates, regardless of discipline or study mode.
Access: Join through the Post-Grad Community platform or attend introductory sessions advertised via the monthly Post-Grad Community newsletter and Post-Grad Community Instagram.
Tip: Use interest groups to test research ideas, collaborate on exhibitions or publications, and build your cross-college network.
Library Services & Academic Support
Offers advanced research resources, library services, study space bookings, academic writing, and learning development support.
Access: visit Library Services page on the UAL website and Academic Support Online.
Tip: Schedule an early meeting with an Academic Support tutor to clarify expectations and strengthen your research approach.
Student Services
Provides counselling, health advice, disability services, and student advice (academic, financial, visa). These services support both your academic and personal wellbeing.
Access: Available through the Student Services section on the UAL website.
Tip: Save key service contacts early—especially for wellbeing, finance, and visa support.
Arts Students’ Union (Arts SU)
Arts SU (Students’ Union for University of the Arts London) is an independent, student-led organisation representing all UAL students. It provides a range of free services, including academic advice, wellbeing support, campaigning, and creative opportunities. Postgraduate students can benefit from joining societies, attending workshops, volunteering, or becoming course reps — all of which help build community and leadership experience.
Access: Visit the ArtsSU website for events, representation, advice, and wellbeing resources.
Tip: Engage with Arts SU early to find communities, take part in campaigns, or simply connect with peers across colleges.
Wellbeing and Quiet Spaces across UAL
Sometimes we all need a moment of quiet to reset or reflect during a busy day. Students can access quiet spaces at each UAL site.
UAL has 3 types of quiet spaces. Some UAL sites have separate Multi-faith rooms and Wellbeing rooms, while others have 1 Multi-faith and Wellbeing room.
Access: Find out more about the types of quiet spaces and where they are located on the Quiet Spaces page
