A playful speculative workshop imagining what AI could be if it responded to planetary and human needs.

The MA Innovation Management 2026 Showcase Asterisk* centres conditions, contexts, and often-unseen elements that enable innovation to emerge and evolve.
Extending this inquiry beyond the exhibition, the *Footnotes Workshop series invites participants to explore what lies between what is known and what is still becoming: through embodied, playful, and collective experiences that open up new possibilities for thinking, making, and co-creating.

Imaginaries for AI is a two-hour workshop that pushes past progress-as-efficiency to ask what AI might look like if it served planetary and human needs, not the other way around.

The workshop adapts the Tomorrow Party, a co-design format from the Wellcome Trust, for a session on AI-mediated futures. Deliberately playful, it loosens people up and moves them from forecasting, towards imagining a preferable future they have agency over. It frames AI systems as something with infrastructure, environmental weight and consequences for identity, rather than an abstract or inevitable force. We invite you to build imaginaries: partial, provisional, deliberately incomplete pictures of what could be different and why it matters.
