An MA Performance: Screen Presentation

This installation—encompassing both the launch of a fashion concept and a short film—reimagines the kitchen apron as a subversive garment that challenges gender norms, disrupting the familiar trope of the woman confined to domestic roles. Filmed primarily in Toronto’s Gay Village, the work offers a satirical and surreal critique of heteropatriarchal dynamics within relationships. It explores how inanimate objects such as the apron—carry dormant yet enduring histories that can be queered and radicalized through play, affect, embodiment, and performance art. In doing so, the project proposes a transformation of these symbols of oppression, repositioning them as expressive, politicized garments worn beyond their traditional contexts.
