Introduction to Photography for 16 to 18 Year Olds Short Course

Course description

This two day intensive photography course is designed to give students an opportunity to learn the basics of photography and darkroom developing.

During the course you will use a traditional film camera in order to learn how to alter your camera settings according to light, speed and the different effects you want to create. You will work to a brief set by the tutors that will enable you to practice all of the techniques that are covered during the weekend.

During the course, you will get the chance to use a darkroom in order to develop your own film and images. The emphasis is on creating exciting, new images using light, shade and the chemical processes available through traditional photography.

Please bring a film camera if you have one, see the Materials tab for details. You may borrow one, but please be prepared to share.

Although you will not be using a digital camera on this course the techniques you learn around composition will be transferrable to all future photography. By understanding where general photographic terms like shutter speed, aperture size and ISO come from, you will be better informed about the settings you use on all cameras.
