Every 2 years we ask students to complete the UAL travel survey, informing us how they commute to their place of study. The findings will be used to update UAL's Workplace Travel Plan, which helps us identify opportunities to reduce our carbon emissions.

As outlined in our Carbon Management Plan, UAL is committed to achieve its net-zero target for in-direct sources of carbon emissions by 2040. Staff and student commuting is responsible for around 1% of UAL’s total carbon footprint and completing this survey will help us to design initiatives to reduce emissions, such as the free bike repair sessions taking place this year.

How long will it take to complete the survey?

5-10 minutes.

Where can I access the survey?

You can access the survey online.

When is the deadline to complete the survey?

The survey will close on 16 December.

What happens to the data collected?

A Workplace Travel Plan also helps to support transport and sustainability policies that are in place in London and nationwide. In order to learn how our students, staff and visitors travel to our sites and to monitor changes in travel behaviour, it is necessary to collect baseline travel data. The carbon emissions from travel are used for internal reporting and is reported to HESA (the Higher Education Statistics Agency) and relevant local authorities.

Is there an incentive for completing the survey?

If you would like to be entered for the chance to win 1 of 2 £50 UAL catering vouchers, please provide your email address at the end of the survey. We will get in touch with the winner and all email addresses will be deleted after the prize draw.

Please note the £50 canteen voucher is accepted in the cafes and canteens across UAL (excluding High Holborn). Vouchers will be in the form of 10x £5 voucher (change isn’t given so the full amount must be spent in one transaction, or it is lost).

If you have any questions about the commuting survey, please contact Ian Lane (Associate Director – Sustainable Operations) via email i.lane@arts.ac.uk.
