To Those Who Pass and Those Who Stay, by Dariya Hutsalyuk

War is time and war is space, war is action. When at war, one cannot live outside of it, but one has to live. And although that task may seem simple at first glance, it takes everything. To celebrate birthdays, go to concerts, make breakfast every morning. Do every single step of the day with an unimagined vulnerability that any minute now life can stop. And if it is not one’s own, it is always someone else’s.

There is No Place Like Home Video is a short experimental documentary film exploring Ukrainian everyday life through participatory home videomaking. As part of a research and making program, eight participants from all over Ukraine videotaped their ordinary lives in an attempt to reclaim the everyday as a way of reckoning with Russian colonial violence.

A Hong Kong Tiger Mum 講港虎媽, by Mavis Wong

A mockumentary exploring the daily life of a Hong Kong immigrant mother raising her children in the UK. Through structured routines, academic expectations, and quiet domestic moments, the film reveals how deeply rooted cultural values around discipline and success persist beyond migration. As observation and reality begin to blur, the story invites audiences to reflect on the fine line between care and control, and the unseen pressures within family life.

Before These Witnesses, by Tiana Te-Rong Hsu

Before These Witnesses is a 20-minute experimental documentary that deconstructs, processes, and simulates a dialogue that refuses to happen organically by confronting my divorced parents' fragmented narratives. An unencountered dialogue is unveiled in the fabricated conversation composed of separately recorded interviews and archival VHS footage. Positioned as both daughter and filmmaker, I explore the potential of how faceted recollections of memories that are interpreted and represented could materially change the fabric of my filial relationships and stabilize my sense of self and truth

The project will be presented as a deconstructed installation on 3rd June on The Street (main exhibit hall), followed by a single screening on 12th June in the Platform Theatre and from 16th–19th June in the White Lab.

一片冰心在玉壶 (Made in China), by Luoyi Zhou

A hybrid documentary & essay film regarding the different life and career shifts of the mother (b. 1950s) & daughter (b. 1980s) artists in Yixing, China, a small city known for its Zisha (purple clay) teapots.

By mainly case studying on the mother & daughter as the typical examples, the film explores such topics as the female teapot artists’ different living conditions, career choices, values, social status, family, relationship with the authorities, etc., reflecting on the intergenerational shifts and fates of the local female artists as a whole within contemporary China’s special historical context. Most of their choices might seem as if autonomous, but were actually carried along by the irresistible tides of the times determined by the external environment……

Walking Until the Sea Turns Blue, by Yuexiang Li

A walking documentary created through a 135km journey along Hadrian’s Wall, from the east coast of England to the west. Combining landscape, body, sound and voice-over, the film records the physical and emotional experience of walking alone through changing weather, exhaustion and repetition.

As the journey unfolds, the work reflects on distance, memory, and why we need to keep moving in order to understand ourselves. Through handheld cinematography, diary-like fragments of narration and an immersive sound design, the film transforms a solitary walk into a meditation on endurance, vulnerability and the possibility of arrival.
