Course description

This is a dynamic course for young students considering further study in art or design. It is a great opportunity for you to hone your visual skills and develop new confidence in your drawing abilities. Life drawing is centred around drawing the naked human form and the models may be male or female. You should come prepared to think differently about how you see and to leave with some great work for your portfolio.

Topics covered:

We will explore a variety of exercises covering:

  • observation skills
  • working from a live model in charcoal
  • using mark-making, perspective and composition
  • experimenting with line, form, tone and texture
  • exploring ways of seeing and depicting the human figure

Materials

  • Drawing pencils - HB, 2B, 5B, 9B
  • Soft pastels - set of 12 colours
  • Putty rubber or similar
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Willow charcoal - medium size
  • Masking tape
