Interior Design - Module One will guide you through essential drawing and presentation techniques and give you an introduction to three-dimensional thinking and analysis in relation to the design of interiors.

Course description

This course is the starting point of the Interior Design Module programme, you do not need any experience of interior design as you will be taught everything you need to start on your interior design journey.

At the beginning of the course, you will be introduced to a project brief – this brief will form the basis of a residential project that you will undertake during the course.

Each week your tutor will introduce you to new skills and techniques covering all the essentials including; concept boards, drawing plans and elevations using CAD software and bubble diagrams.

You will have lectures on hard finishes, soft furnishings, lighting, colour and sourcing materials. As you begin to finalise your designs you will also learn about mounting and labelling your design before presenting your finished project in week 12.

This course is the starting point of a three-part programme, you do not need any experience of interior design as you will be taught everything you need to start on your interior design journey.

Who should attend

This course is suitable for beginners and for anyone who wants to learn to design interiors professionally. Upon completion of Module One, we recommend student’s progress onto Interior Design - Module Two and Interior Design - Module Three as further steps towards your career, or applying for a full-time course. The well-established, unique three-part structure allows you to choose the stage at which you want to join and leave the programme, matching your level of experience.

Booking:

Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.

This course is scheduled to run on campus in a face to face delivery format. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic situation this course may be adapted in line with UK government guidance or other operational requirements. This may include changing course location (to another UAL site), cancellation of the course, or moving part or all of the course online. In the event of any changes being required we will inform you as soon as possible and support you in any changes required. Please bear this in mind when making any travel, visa, or accommodation arrangements.

Materials

Please bring the following materials with you to this course:

Week 1

  • Pen and note pad for taking notes
  • Eraser
  • Tape measure (any size)
  • Selection of a few coloured pens or pencils

Week 3

To access the current version of the Vectorworks software you will need to create a 3 month student account. Please upload a copy of your confirmation email as proof of registration. Please do this on Week 3 of the course so that your access does not run out before the class has finished.
