Interior Design Module One Short Course

Course description

Interior Design - Module One will guide you through essential drawing and presentation techniques and give you an introduction to three-dimensional thinking and analysis in relation to the design of interiors.

This residential interior design course will be based around lectures, workshops and demonstrations, covering everything required for designing a simple domestic interior from soft furnishings to the use of hard materials.

The emphasis will be on developing practical design skills by completing a comprehensive interior design project. You will be amazed at what you can achieve during this intensive and very practical course and you will leave already thinking like an interior designer.

With a wealth of unrivalled experience and expertise, our tutors' practical approach will prepare you for a future in the interior design profession.

Please note that this course requires dedication; students should therefore allow extra time to work on their design project outside of the class.


Course outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll have the confidence to start work on a straightforward interior design scheme by yourself. You will leave the course with a number of newfound design-related skills and the ability to use design thinking when approaching future projects.


Who should attend

Anyone who wants to learn to design interiors professionally. Upon completion of Module One, we recommend students progress onto Interior Design - Module Two and Interior Design - Module Three as further steps towards your career, or applying for a full-time course. The well-established, unique three-part structure allows you to choose the stage at which you want to join and leave the programme, matching your level of experience.

  • As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance.

This course is scheduled to run on campus in a face to face delivery format. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic situation this course may be adapted in line with UK government guidance or other operational requirements. This may include changing course location (to another UAL site), cancellation of the course, or moving part or all of the course online. In the event of any changes being required we will inform you as soon as possible and support you in any changes required. Please bear this in mind when making any travel, visa, or accommodation arrangements.

Materials

Please bring the following materials with you to this course:

  • Notebook and pen

  • Retractable eraser

  • A3 pad of tracing paper

  • Fine liner pens; sizes 0.1, 0.3 and 0.8

  • A selection of interior design and life style magazines which you are prepared to cut up for images

If studying on an intensive 3 week course, a laptop or tablet will be required for research from day three.

As part of your research you may wish to do some printing. Please bring a small amount of cash to the course on your first day to credit your printing account.
