CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS SHOWS: FOUNDATION 14-18 MAY CSM24

This year CSM Shows: Foundation showcases the work of over 500 students studying on the course, in our most ambitious end of year exhibition to date. Inviting every student to submit work within the scale parameters of a 50cm cube, this exhibition is a vibrant display of projects across all areas of Art and Design.

Key dates and times

Preview: Tuesday 14 May | First slot: 4pm | Second slot: 6.30pm
Show open to the public: Wednesday 15 – Saturday 18 May, 12 - 8pm

Work hand in

Your work needs to be handed in at the Lethaby Gallery, CSM King’s Cross on Wednesday 8 May. Please come during your allocated time slot by order of surname.

Time slots

  • A-G: 10am - 11am
  • H-N: 11am - 12pm
  • O-Z: 12pm - 1pm

Book your tickets for the Preview

All Foundation students were sent an email containing a link to book tickets on Tuesday 30 April.

There is a limited capacity for the show space, so there are two slots during the Preview. Graduating Foundation students can request up to three tickets for one of the Preview slots - one for yourself and two for guests. All tickets are digital and can be booked online.

Please note: you can only book tickets for one time slot. Anyone booking tickets for both slots will have one booking cancelled.

Tickets are scanned on entry and will admit one person per ticket. If you have not received your tickets one week before the show, please email csmticketing@arts.ac.uk

Preview tickets for students not exhibiting in the Foundation show

Undergraduate and Postgraduate students who are not exhibiting in the Foundation show are asked to attend the public opening 14 - 18 May, due to the limited capacity of the Lethaby Gallery.

PAT testing small electrical items

If your show display includes electrical items, they will need to be PAT tested before they are installed. PAT testing is designed to check the wiring of electrical equipment for any defects that could be dangerous.

The most common items in the shows are:

  • Projectors
  • Laptops/iPad/tablets with chargers
  • TVs/monitors
  • Extension cables
  • DVD players

Please note:

  • Un-fused power adapters (must be a U.K 3 pin fused type)
  • No open electrical circuits or bare wiring. Work must be contained in an electrical project, box, and no exposed bare electrical wires.
  • Any electrical wiring for mains power must use standard 3 core cable.

Any complex electrical installations are subject to the electrician's inspection and approval

PAT testing will take place in the Lethaby Gallery between 8 - 13 May. Contact Joseph Legg if your work needs testing.

Food and Drinks

We ask that you avoid eating or drinking in the show space. There are many food options in King’s Cross.

Please do not bring your own alcohol to the show as it contradicts our license. There will be a card-only bar at the Preview.

Children

Families are welcome, but some artwork may not be suitable for young children. We'll mark these pieces with signs, and our staff will help you avoid them. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. We will have baby-changing facilities on-site.

The show space may not be suitable for strollers, so we suggest using a sling if possible. We have a stroller parking area in reception next to the show space during the public opening, and our staff can show you where it is.

Security

During the showcase, you may be bringing expensive personal items and equipment into the building. Please take steps to protect your belongings, as the University cannot take responsibility for loss or damage of personal property.

To keep your items safe, please remove or lock your valuables away when you are not present. Security staff will be stationed at key points around the building during the showcase. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to one of the officers.

Social media, press and editorial

The Communications team will be sharing your work throughout the show. If you have any questions about social media, please contact: csmdigitalteam@arts.ac.uk

UAL Showcase

Central Saint Martins Shows 2024 will be complemented by UAL Showcase. Putting your work on the Graduate Showcase can help you access an even wider global audience, who might not be able to attend in person.

You can upload your work as soon as you’re ready. Visit the Showcase: Practical Info section of the UAL website for a video on how to upload your work to the online platform, as well as advice on writing about your work, making your work digitally accessible, protecting your intellectual property and more. Tutors will be available to help you present your work online and to advise you of the deadline for upload. They will also check and provide feedback if there are any improvements that you can make.

Get free professional photos of your work

Would you like to have some free professional images taken of your work (or even you!) for your portfolio or UAL Showcase? All CSM students can book a free thirty minute slot with a photography technician in the pop-up studio which will be located in the Street at CSM. No experience is necessary, and you are welcome to bring work in any medium to be photographed. You can also request a professional portrait photograph.
