National College for the Creative and Cultural Industries

The National College for the Creative and Cultural Industries has been created by a consortium of employers and industry organisations to provide specialist training in the technical skills needed by the creative and cultural industries.

The National College specialises in the delivery of Creative Apprenticeships and the newly-created UAL Awarding Body Level 4 Professional Diploma in Technical & Production Practice for the Creative Industries. This is the first of the college’s Professional Diplomas, designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to work in the creative industries. It will ensure that those who graduate have exactly the right set of skills to hit the ground running when they start work in areas such as:

  • Automation
  • Event management
  • Production management
  • Project management
  • Senior technical
  • Stage management
  • Sales and hire account handlers
  • Service engineers.

With headquarters at The Backstage Centre, and a new purpose-built facility in Thurrock, the National College provides opportunities for students to train alongside the professionals who rehearse, record and film there. It opened its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2016, and is managed by Creative & Cultural Skills on behalf of a consortium of employers and industry organisations including Live Nation, Royal Opera House, BBC, National Theatre, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, White Light, and the Association of British Theatre Technicians.
