Half Term Workshops – What really happens at Art School? (8–12 years)

Across the week, children will explore different areas of art and design including drawing, fashion, architecture and more. Led by UAL School of Pre-degree Studies tutors, each session introduces how artists and designers experiment with ideas and materials to create original work.

You can attend one workshop or come to the whole series. Each day offers a different activity. Children must be always accompanied by an adult.

All sessions run in three time slots:
10:00–11:30 | 12:00–13:30 | 14:30–16:00

Where? Meet at 1 EdCity, W12 7TF with a walk to visit UAL School of Pre-degree Studies, Lime Grove

What? Journey sticks: Discover how simple activities can lead to big ideas! Using easy materials and techniques, you’ll learn how to document your experiences, research new ideas, and create something original without worrying about a specific outcome. It’s all about exploring, experimenting, and finding inspiration in unexpected places!

What? FashionandTextiles:Discover the exciting world of fashion and textiles as you work with and on the body to bring your ideas to life! In this workshop, you’ll explore draping techniques, experiment with fabrics, and play with textures to create original designs. Using your imagination, you’ll learn how to transform simple materials into unique creations that work with the body.

What: 3DBamboo Structures: Step into the world of 3D design and discover how to create amazing structures! In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore architecture and construction. Whether it’s designing a futuristic building or a playful sculpture, this workshop is all about imagination, creativity, and having fun while exploring and understanding the exciting world of 3D structures!

What? MarkMaking: Dive into the exciting world of drawing. In this workshop, you’ll explore how to express your ideas through bold marks, vibrant sketches, and unique ways of drawing. You’ll experiment with different tools and techniques, learning how to turn observations and inspirations into imaginative visual stories. Whether it’s capturing a moment or dreaming up something completely new, this session is all about unleashing your creativity and having fun with the power of drawing!

These workshops are delivered by University of the Arts London (UAL) in partnership with EdCity, Ark, and Hammersmith & Fulham Council, and funded by the King’s Coronation Youth Fund.

T&Cs

Children must be always accompanied by an adult. Adults must book one ticket per child, with a maximum of 2 children per adult.

Workshops will take place outside EdCity. In the event of bad weather, sessions will be moved indoors.

Attendee information (including children’s names) may be shared with venue staff to support delivery of the session.
