Mixed Media Photography Short Course

Course description

Join Mixed Media Photography and using the photographic image as a starting point, this three-day course will enable you to develop a project that explore expressive possibilities across a range of hands-on mixed media techniques.

During the three days you will cover various mixed media techniques including embroidery, paint, weaving and collage. The sessions will cover project proposal development, basic digital camera skills, editing, demonstrations on different approaches to mixed media as well as tutor and peer feedback on the development of your work.

Course outcomes
You will acquire knowledge and understanding of artists, themes and practices associated with mixed media photography and increase your confidence in experimenting with a range of techniques and materials. You will also develop your camera and editing kills in order to produce good quality images to work on and develop your personal mixed media photography project. 

Who should attend 
Photographers, artists, students and anyone looking to develop a project using photography as a starting point and enrich their art practice through hands-on techniques combining photography and mixed media. No previous experience is needed in this area, only an enthusiasm and an open mind to working with creative manipulations. Suitable for both beginners and students who have attended the one-day course in Photography and Mixed Media.

  • As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance. 
  • We always recommend you attend all of the classes so that you get the most out of the experience! 
  • Certificates are great to complement your cv. 

This course is scheduled to run on campus in a face-to-face delivery format. Please note that due to the ongoing pandemic situation this course may be adapted in line with UK government guidance or other operational requirements. This may include changing course location (to another UAL site), cancellation of the course, or moving part or all of the course online. In the event of any changes being required we will inform you as soon as possible and support you in any changes required. Please bear this in mind when making any travel, visa, or accommodation arrangements.

Materials

Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:

  • Your digital camera (fully charged with memory card and usb cable / card reader)

  • Tripod if you have one

  • Imagery to experiment with: a set of printed photographs (any size, inkjet, C-Type or RC coated suitable), or postcards, magazine cut outs.

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • A notepad and pen
