Course overview

Despite how full of experience, ideas and stories we are, sometimes engaging in creative writing can feel daunting.

Short fiction is the perfect way to find your voice and create art that reflects what you know or want to know about the world.

This 5-week evening course at Central Saint Martins will break down plot and story types, and get you started on your own literary path.

Who this course is for

This course is aimed at adults who have always known they have a story to tell but have never been shown how to.

The course is designed to break down plot and guide students in the craft of short stories.

Learning outcomes

  • Be able to identify and implement into your own writing elements of classical plot structure
  • Learn to create and resolve conflict and motivation for characters to create interesting narratives
  • Differentiate between and choose the proper narrative point of view for own specific projects
  • Understand symbolism and use it to imbue objects in stories with meaning and gravity
  • Be exposed to experimental forms of structure and narrative
  • Develop plots for stories, draft, share and receive feedback on at least 1 story or work in progress
  • Digital badge and certificate of attendance
