Professional Sewing Techniques
A professional sewing course to develop your basic machine sewing skills to professional standard. We'll focus on how to make lightweight garments for women, looking at the techniques used in top-quality ready-to-wear pieces. We'll tackle cut-work organisation, garment assembly and handling methods which are crucial in saving time and raising standards.
The course includes:
- Seam types
- Edge finishing
- Collar and facing applications
- Various cuff finishes
- Fly fastenings
- Garment pressing procedures
Intermediate. To get the most out of this course you should have sewing skills to the level of Introduction to Sewing Skills.
Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older.
Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.
Jacqui Sealy graduated from London College of Fashion with qualifications in garment making and clothing. Following her studies she worked extensively in the fashion industry as a sample machinist, pattern cutter, sample room manager and production manager. The companies she has worked with include Ally Cappellino, Selina Blow, and SR Gent, who supplied Marks and Spencer, Richard Shops and C&A.
Siaw Lee Priddle's passion for sewing was inspired when she studied bespoke tailoring and womenswear at the London School of Fashion. Through this she expanded her sewing technical skills and has been working in the fashion industry for over fifteen years. She has worked with various manufacturing outlets including S R Gent – a major supplier for Marks & Spencer. Her work has enabled her to reach Senior Specialist Technician level at London College of Fashion and enhance her teaching skills.
In order to fully participate in the practical exercises please bring the following materials/equipment to the first class:
- Pencil, eraser and sharpener
- Fabric shears
- Small sharp pointed scissors
- Stitch ripper
- Fine steel pins
- Metric tape measure
- Tailors chalk
