Course description

So you want to criticise art? Would you know how to translate your thoughts into a published article in a magazine, newspaper or on the web? In this introductory course you will learn ways of approaching and looking at art, how to put your appreciation into words, and how to market and promote your written work for publication.

Outcomes

  • The course will equip you with the tools to think and write critically about contemporary art.
  • You should develop skills in observation and research, and study aspects of writing itself, from style and form to dissemination.
  • A major outcome of the course will be a 700-word review of an art exhibition, which each student will be asked to write.

Who should take this course?

  • Those wishing to improve their critical skills and looking for ways of finding a personal voice.
  • Graduates who want to enhance their understanding of the art press.
  • Students thinking of pursuing a career in arts journalism.

Level: Suitable for both beginners as well as those with some previous knowledge.

Entry requirements: A good grasp of spoken and written English

 

Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older

  • As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance.
