Course description

Course overview

This dynamic course is designed to introduce you to a range of jewellery making techniques and skills so you can produce your very own piece of jewellery.

Through a mixture of presentations, gamification, practical exercises and demonstrations, you'll learn how to design, develop and cast your chosen piece of jewellery from scratch. The course will cover techniques such as mood boarding, sculpting, maquette making, sand casting, de-spruing and polishing.

You'll work towards designing and making a charm, ring or pendant and prepare a sand cast.

  • Students aged 16 to 18 with an interest in designing
  • Students who are keen to learn basic jewellery making techniques
  • Students who want to learn more about fashion jewellery and the jewellery industry including information about manufacturing, designing, making, outsourcing, hand fabricating and pricing

Tutor

Huw Riddall

Huw studied his foundation and degree in jewellery at Central St Martins, finishing with an award winning collection. 

After graduating he went on to work for 3 years in a Hatton Garden workshop, refining his making skills to develop his own practice. 

Now a part time technician on the Fashion Jewellery course at LCF, he splits the rest of his time between bespoke jewellery projects ranging from large metal housing for installations to fine jewellery, and continuing to develop his own designs and conceptual work. 

Huw can offer a balance of craftsmanship and creative exploration, whether conceptually or through hands on exploration of material.
